This is a Memorial to honor Cuauhtemoc and the warriors who fought in defense of their homeland against Spanish conquerors. It is located at the intersection of two of the most important avenues in Mexico City, Paseo de la Reforma and Insurgentes.

Cuauhtemoc (meaning: “the eagle that descended”was the last Huēyi tlahtoāni (from Nahuatl language Huēyi-great, tlahtoāni-orator) “great orator” or “great ruler” of Mexico-Tenochtitlan(1520-1525), before Spanish government. The Tlatoani was the supreme ruler, with both military and religious functions.
