The Serra Chapel was named in Father Serra’s honor, who founded nine missions in California. He celebrated mass in San Juan Capistrano Mission’s adobe church in 1783.
I have noticed that the light in almost all the churches I have visited is always very soft because it comes from stained glass windows or simple windows, doors, and votives. For me this kind of light evoques feelings of meditation, retreat, silence and respect.

Mission San Juan Capistrano is one of the of twenty-one missions founded in Alta California . It was founded in 1775 by Franciscans.
Although in December of 1812 an earthquake caused the Great Stone Church to collapse, it can be classified as a big place, not only for its size (can you see the people at the left side of the main arc?), but also because it is considered the Jewel of all the California Missions due to its great architecture, which is considered a gem.

Father Junipero Serra established Mission San Juan Capistrano on November 1, 1776. The purpose of the Spanish Missions was to make colonial outposts and centers of learning and training of Native peoples. Therefore, they were places where people of two different cultures were connected, who were trying to communicate and were building a community. The padres taught the Native Americans the Spanish language, and a new set of craft skills; although, those centers were also an attempt to convert Native people to catholicism.

For me, the word bliss is related to sunny days and solitude is always a blissful moment. I usually like to be surrounded by nature when I want to be in solitude. So I decided to put the words together and represent them in this photo of a light house in a non-habitable Island on a sunny day.
